Frequently asked questions
Starting counseling can bring up a lot of questions. Here are answers to the ones we hear most.
How do I schedule my first appointment?
Choose a time on our online scheduler — no account needed, just an email or phone number — or call (205) 690-8926. New clients often start with a brief consultation so we can make sure we are the right fit.
What ages do you work with?
We provide counseling for children, adolescents and adults, as well as couples and families.
What types of concerns do you treat?
Shanda Banks specializes in depression, anxiety, mood disturbance, grief, abuse, neglect, abandonment and other traumas, and works with a wide range of life challenges.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes — most insurances are accepted, and private pay is available. Please have your insurance card ready when you book. We recommend calling your insurance company to confirm your mental-health benefits, copay and deductible.
What if I don't have insurance or prefer not to use it?
Private pay is available. Under the No Surprises Act you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before your first session.
What are your hours?
Monday 10 AM–6 PM, Tuesday 12–6 PM, Thursday 1–6 PM and Friday 10 AM–6 PM. We're closed Wednesdays and Sundays, and Saturdays are by appointment only — please call to arrange one. Online booking shows every currently open time.
Is what I share kept confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is foundational to counseling. The limited exceptions required by law — such as imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, or suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult — are explained at your first session.
How long is a session?
Individual sessions are typically about 50–55 minutes. Couples and family sessions are about 60 minutes, and consultations are about 30 minutes.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. Shanda Banks is Board Certified in TeleMental Health, and secure video sessions are available to clients anywhere in Alabama. Choose “Telehealth” when you book.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance so the time can be offered to another client. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before your appointment will result in a $50 no-show fee. You can cancel using the private link in your confirmation email, or by calling the office.
What if I am in crisis?
7th Wellness is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger call 911. For a mental-health crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) any time, day or night.
